This year i became part of AIESEC, world`s largest student organization. Now i`m ER for the project ”Green furute”, here i will tell you more about it:

PROJECT SUMMARY

Green Project is national educational project aimed to raise environmental awareness amongst high school students and develop more sustainable lifestyles.

The ultimate goal or outcome of the project is to boost students’ environmental sensibility by letting them be exposed to a variety of environmental activities and discussions run by interns so that young people can develop eco-friendly habits.

Goals of the project:

–          Promote international dialogue in global environmental issues.

–          Increase interest and address awareness of high schools students of particular environmental issues worldwide and in Bulgaria.

–          Inspire change in habits of teenagers, and mobilize youth around the implementation of healthy, sustainable lifestyle and practices.

–          Inform and provide education to high schools students about around environmentally sustainable and socially responsible choices for every individual.

Project is based on conducting weekly workshops discussions, organizing different activities to help students build skills and knowledge of environment and ecological issues throughout Bulgaria.

Project Program:

  1. Air pollution
  2. Water management and conservation
  3. Waste management
  4. Green technologies & Alternative energy
  5. Green life-style

The project will lay emphasis on waste and water management and building green lifestyles.

Number of activities organized during the project:

1) 3 eco-challenges: Movie Day, Recycle Art Contest, Earth Hour extra workshop

2) Earth Day event

– Eco event

– Open day with environmental organizations, or agencies

– Building workshop (renewable energy)

Project includes “3 eco-challenges” for high schools students aimed to make them take first steps in pursuit of healthy, sustainable lifestyles:

1)  Movie Day

Interns will host an “Environmental movie day” or “Green TV day” as a fun and informative way to engage students in change. Following the film, facilitate a discussion about reactions to the film(s) and issue(s) at hand.

2) Recycle Art Contest

Bring in a pile of clean recyclable items (rescued from recycling bins!) such as cardboard boxes, bottles, cans, paper, etc.  Interns form students into teams and instruct them to design and create one useful or decorative/artistic item from objects in the pile. Supplies such as staples, glue, scissors, tape, etc. are provided. Give the teams a time limit and set a timer.  Allow them to work up until the last team is finished or until the timer goes off.  Have each team present their creation to the judges and select the top entry for a prize.  Display the top creations at the closing ceremony.

3)     Earth Hour

Earth hour 2014 is scheduled for Saturday, March 29, from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. during participants’ local time.

Interns will encourage students to turn off their non-essential lights for one hour on this day to raise awareness about the need to take action on climate change. The workshop will be dedicated to deliver the message of Earth Hour and discuss it necessity and importance in climate change issue.

Project includes Photo exhibition competition.

The idea of this activity is that each participant uploads two photographs on fb group or in school, one representing clean city and the other illustrating the problem of littering or pollution in the country.

The holder of the pictures, which have more realistic perception of waste management problem in the city, will be elected based on voting principal.

The winner of the competition receives a special certificate and name “eco-angel”.

Project includes Earth Day celebration/event

Number of possible activities:

This is an activity which contributes in the exposure of AIESEC as a brand. The idea behind it is to make an open event with music and entertainment acts, celebrating the 22nd of April (Earth’s day).

On the event promotional materials for ecological purpose can be dealt within the visitors.

Project includes Open day with environmental organizations, or agencies

While having the partnership with environmental organizations or agencies, we can use it to bring them closer to participants of the project. This can be like one day tour, or daily activities for groups that will visit the NGO’s and that will learn from their work.

Project includes Building workshop (renewable energy)

While having the support from NGO’s, we can use their knowledge for building: Solar collector and/or windmills.

These are easy to build, efficient, and can show to the participants that renewable is not always hard to get. Also, from experience they tend to use the gathered knowledge at their homes, farms etc.

The idea behind this workshop is to build solar panels/windmills with the students that are participating in the project.

This is one homemade solar collector. It is very easy to build, it can be built with recycled materials (window frame or something) and it costs very little money. I wrote this just to give an idea for a workshop. We had this workshop on the United for Tomorrow project, and it was quite successful. We had a lot of students joining just for the building of the solar collector. I don’t actually have the pictures right now, but as soon as I get some I can send you.

Also there is the possibility of making model windmills

Notice it is very easy to make. The black tool is just a measuring device, and it is not part of the windmill. This is good example because it can show everyone how easy is to get electricity from wind. The kids can see that by blowing in the windmill so some bulb can light.
